The Museum of New Painters is proud to present Josheph Drapell’s new paintings.
“My Universe @ 70 – Part III” will be open until September 15, 2010.
Informal openings: Saturday 4th & 11th of September 2010, 2-4 PM.
Drapell’s art evolved from the unlikely mixture of influences from Hans Hofmann and Morris Louis. The earthy Hofmann (with his ability to over-paint until his expression is pushed to its ultimate form) is contrasted with the ethereal quality of Louis, whose work reminds us of Raphael’s or Mozart’s perfection and the seeming absence of the human hand. Drapell has both of these technical approaches. He also “draws” with reflections of light (in the shiny parts of his paintings); this provides the unique celebratory sense to Drapell’s very personal colour.
