“Oaxaca Stadium”
The exhibition will run from May 7th through June 12th 2010
Opening Hours: Tues – Sat, 10-5pm

Private View: Thurs May 13th, 6-9pm

Arch Gallery is pleased to present a solo show of new paintings by David Webb. Within this body of work, he brings together two themes. Firstly his continuing responses to family stories of travel, and secondly paintings based on drawings and memories of three recent trips to the United States and Latin America. What connects the ideas are Webb’s use of color to make natural light and space, and distinct shapes that re-form the realities he bases his work upon. The resulting images are not referential but aim to seem familiar, intimate and personal with a strong sense of place and allusion to narrative.

Prolific Impressions – Printmaking Now
The Printmaker is a most peculiar being. He [she] delights in deferred gratification and in doing what does not come naturally. He [she] takes pleasure in working backward or in opposites: the gesture that produces a line of force moving to the right prints to the left, and vice versa; a deeply engraved trench in a copper or zinc plate prints as a depression in the paper. Left is right. Right is left. Backward is forward. The Printmaker, peculiar as he [she] is, must see at least two sides to every question.

The cycle will begin with two shows featuring selected works by all of the artists the gallery has represented in its first decade, divided into ten artists whose work was shown in 2000-2005 and ten from 2005-2010. Many exhibited in both periods, of course, but we have tried to construct a witness of works either that the artists showed in solo shows at the corresponding time, or failing that, works from the same period.
