In conjunction with the exhibition Here Today; Here Tomorrow currently on view at our project space we will be hosting a talk with the artists Dana Levy and Karlis Rekevics moderated by Christina Kee.
Here Today; Here Tomorrow showcases works made during, or as a result of, our inaugural resident artist exchange with the city of Le Havre in France.
Essential to the perception of Le Havre by both Levy and Rekevics was an interest in the pre- and post- World War II landscape and how it was shaped by the devastating Allied Force bombings on the 5th and 6th of September, 1944. During the bombings, the entire city and its rich architectural history dating back to the early 16th century was virtually decimated killing over 5,000 people and reducing more than 12,000 buildings to rubble. After the war the city was rebuilt in the Modernist style through the nearly singular vision of the architect Auguste Perret. The only surviving element of the original city plan was the grid upon which the city was organized. It is from this perspective that our artists approached present day Le Havre as a vanishing point for their creative explorations.
Our project space is located at 111 Front Street, Suite 222, Broolyn, NY 11201.

Reception Thursday, March 29, 6 to 8 pm
Lori Bookstein Fine Art is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent sculpture by Willard Boepple. This is the third solo show of Boepple’s work at Lori Bookstein Fine Art.
Three ten- and eleven-foot tall works will comprise the exhibition; their placement in the main gallery will challenge the scale of the space. Earlier in his career Boepple explored the possibilities afforded by large, vertical sculpture with his stepladder series. Five years ago he began to consider the parameters of these new tower-like structures after being commissioned by a radio station in Syracuse New York to design a 130 ft broadcast tower. The project, with its particular structural requirements, generated the impetus behind this body of work.

Oriental Luminescence is Helen Brough’s latest series of glass art where new technology in structural glass and lighting systems is fused with traditional 15th Century stained glass painting techniques. Brough’s involvement with glass was initially inspired by the work of Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933), whose experiments with layering painted glass to show multiple textures and paintings on panels revolutionized the making of stained glass and reinvented the medium. As a contemporary artist, Brough aspires to integrate aberrant materials with innovative techniques.
